Still No Reopening Date for the New Disney Skyliner

Walt Disney World Resort has still not released a reopening date for the new Skyliner after hundreds of passengers were stranded for hours on Saturday Night. Disney has also not released an official cause of the issue. Disney does say they have a team diligently looking into the cause of the malfunction. There are images that are being circulated of Skyliner cabins crumpled in a line at one of the loading stations but Disney has not provided information about these images.

Each cabin was equipped with an emergency kit. These kits included water, a note pad, cups and glow sticks. Disney reports that there were no injuries and that they are working with each guest “regarding impacts to their visit with us.” Some guests were rescued by Reedy Creek firefighters with their high-rise ladder trucks. Other guests reported that their cabins slowly began working again and they were able to exit at the station.

As of Monday afternoon, the Skyliners were running slowly for testing but are still fully down for guests.

Disney has released an official statement on the incident.

“We have a team diligently looking into the cause of the malfunction on the Epcot line of the Disney Skyliner. We have been in contact with the guests, many of whom were on the Skyliner for more than three hours until we were able to restart the system. We express our sincere apologies for the inconvenience and continue to work with each guest individually.”

The new Skyliner system just opened a week ago and connects Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot to four of the Disney Resort hotels.  The line where the incident occurred connects Epcot with Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.  On that line is also another station for Disney’s Riviera Resort that is not open at this time.

We will continue to keep you updated as more information is released from Disney.
