Disney Skyliner will take Flight on September 29, 2019 at Walt Disney World Resort

Guests will soon be able to travel quickly across the sky.  On September 29, Disney Skyliner gondolas will take flight and officially begin transporting guests around Walt Disney World Resort.  Disney calls this state-of-the-art transportation system the dawn of a new era in Walt Disney World transportation.  Disney Skyliner connects Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot to four resort hotels – Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and the new Disney’s Riviera Resort that is scheduled to open in December 2019.

This project began in late 2017 with the official testing of the system starting in January 2019.  This adds another form of free transportation for guests besides buses, the monorail and ferryboats.

Disney did release that the nearly 300 gondolas will feature onboard audio and that they will not be air conditioned.  The cabins were specifically tailored to provide a comfortable ride for guests in the Florida climate, with cross-ventilation for sufficient air flow and reflective windows to prevent direct sunlight.  Each gondola will have wooden bench-style seating that will fit up to 10 people.  There will be room for strollers to roll on without having to fold them up.

The gondolas will not stop moving as they enter and exit the stations.  For guests with wheelchairs, larger strollers or other assistive devices, there will be a separate queue for anyone needing extra time while getting on a gondola.

Some of the gondolas are adorned with iconic Disney Characters, figures from Disney attractions and film favorites, which will make getting around even more magical as guests enjoy breathtaking vistas over and between each of the enchanting locations.

Estimated ride times will be approximately five to 15 minutes in length, depending on the destination. • Disney’s Caribbean Beach to Disney’s Hollywood Studios: 5-6 minutes • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort to Disney’s Pop Century Resort or Disney’s Art of Animation Resort: under six minutes • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort to Disney’s Riviera Resort: about 5 minutes • Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort to International Gateway at Epcot: approximately 15 minutes • Disney’s Riviera Resort to International Gateway at Epcot: approximately nine minutes.
