Walt Disney World Resort will celebrate its 50th Anniversary in 2021 and they have been preparing big time! If you have been to Walt Disney World Resort in the past year you may have noticed all of the construction sites in and around the parks. That’s all because of Disney’s preparations to open new rides, restaurants, attractions and resorts in time for their celebration. Let me tell you about five of the new additions I am excited about experiencing in the next two years.
5. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure

This attraction is currently a popular ride at Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris. Disney is currently constructing a new version of this ride in Epcot’s France Pavilion. Guests will whisk in, and out, and under the kitchen helping make dinner and avoiding pesky chefs who don’t want rats in their restaurant. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is a 3D environment with a trackless ride system. The façade of this ride will look like Gusteau’s restaurant.
4. TRON Lightcycle Power Run Coaster

If you have been to the Magic Kingdom recently you may have noticed a huge construction site next to Space Mountain in Tomorrowland. This will be the home to the TRON Lightcycle Power Run that is currently a top attraction at Shanghai Disneyland. This ride is a covered indoor coaster where you will board a train of two-wheeled lightcycles for a race through the digital frontier. The type of restraint system is one of a kind and very similar to the one Avatar Flight of Passage uses where you lean forward on to the lightcycle and are secured behind your legs and lower back as you lay forward. Disney worked alongside a company named Vekoma which they have also worked with to build Everest and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. TRON Lightcycle Power Run Coaster is set to debut right before the 50th Anniversary in 2021.
3. Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster

This new coaster currently under construction at Epcot in Future World will be one of the world’s longest enclosed coasters. It is so big that the volume of 4 Spaceship Earth attractions could fit inside it. According to Bob Chapek, a Chairman at Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, this will be a one of a kind storytelling coaster that will connect the adventures of a storyline with the thrills of a coaster. It will have a new innovative ride system with spinning rollercoaster cars. The same designers from Vekoma are also working on this coaster with Disney. Disney just keeps upping their coaster game! This ride is also scheduled to be open for the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort in 2021.
2. Epcot’s Space Themed Restaurant

This new table service restaurant will be out-of-this-world! It is currently under construction adjacent to Mission: SPACE in Epcot. There will be a 250-foot-long digital screen wrapping around the curved room making you feel like you are dining in space. Patina Restaurant Group is currently hiring for this restaurant and specifically looking for an international crew so that the experience will be much like dining on the International Space Station. Chef Theo Schoenegger is the head of this table service restaurant and has recently opened two other Patina Group restaurants in Disney, Maria & Enzo’s and Enzo’s Hideaway. Guests can expect international cuisine along with craft beer selections and 1000 bottles of the world’s finest wine. The rumor is we could see this restaurant open this year!
1.Star Wars Themed Hotel

I am a serious Star Wars fan so this is definitely the TOP of my list! Construction is already underway on this Star Wars themed hotel that will be an immersive experience in which guests are essentially characters in the Star Wars universe isolated for the World outside. Even the views from the guest windows will mimic space. This luxury hotel is being built near Hollywood Studios to accompany the addition of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Disney has said there will be a “seamless connection” to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge but details on that connection haven’t been released yet. Bob Chapek, Chairman, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, says they are working on one of their most experiential concepts ever. It is said to be a 2-day fully immersed story where you are considered characters in a plot and are invited to act those roles out. Prices and availability hasn’t been released but looking at architectural plans I am expecting it to hold a small number of guests. So getting a reservation could be very difficult but SO worth it!
